Welcome to third grade!  This is an exciting year of transitions and new learning experiences.  Your child will be building on existing skills and branching out into higher-level of such as multiplication and division, cursive handwriting, and all areas of language arts.  Your child will explore the treasures of our Catholic faith including lives of the Saints, prayers, Bible study and a deeper understanding of the sacraments. There will be lots of interesting lessons, fun projects, field trips, and lessons on individual Chromebooks.  We are looking forward to meeting you and your child and having a great and successful school year!

Math: We learn multiplication and division facts with fluency.  We increase our understanding of fractions, geometry, measurement and place value.

Language Arts: Using the Scott Foresman reading series which incorporates reading, spelling, phonics, grammar and writing, we focus on increasing reading fluency and comprehension with special attention to text structures, genres, context clues, and vocabulary.  Students do research papers, write letters, and compose persuasive, narrative and expository paragraphs.  Students also improve and practice cursive handwriting.

Religion: We develop knowledge of Old Testament figures, the miracles of Jesus, Liturgical seasons, the Blessed Mother and the Rosary, the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Holy Eucharist, the Holy Spirit, and the saints.  Students participate actively in the weekly Mass.

Science: The curriculum focuses on plants, animals, life cycles under Life Science and soil, rocks, and minerals under Earth Science.

Social Studies: The curriculum focuses on learning about local history, map skills, how laws are made, good citizenship, graphs, consumers, producers, and economy.
