ART I
Grades 9,10,11,12
One Credit/Full Year Course

This course will introduce students to the visual arts through art history and hands-on experiences. This course will offer students a basic study of the elements of art and principles of design accompanied by the study of artists, art movements, artistic styles and methods used in the creative process and thought. Students will learn how to look at a work of art, and understand the role art has played throughout history and the Catholic religion. This course is a prerequisite for all upper level art courses. Requires physical activity and cleaning.

ART ll
Grades 10, 11 & 12
One Credit/Full Year Course
Prerequisite: Art l or Survey of Art

Art ll is designed for those students who have successfully completed Art l and wish to continue to master skills on a more advanced level. The objective is to develop the student’s ability to observe and perceive art by 1.) The production of art 2.) The criticism of art 3.) The history of art and 4.) The aesthetics of art. This class continues with the visual arts and hands-on experience. A variety of art styles will be explored including drawing, painting, sculpture, & printmaking. A wide variety of mediums will be used to create projects which include, paint, modeling materials, ink, paper, pastels, markers and so on. Both two-dimensional and three dimensional art will be explored. The history of styles and techniques will also be discussed. Requires physical activity and cleaning.

SURVEY OF ART
Grade 9, 10, 11 & 12
One-half Credit/Semester Course

This semester course will help to develop both visual communication skills and an awareness of the value of art in our society. This course will be covering elements and principals of art, art in society, personal development, media and technique. These techniques will give the student a background in the art basics that may help them when creating projects for other courses. A variety of art media will be used including computer activities.

MULTIMEDIA (GRAPHIC DESIGN)
Grades 10, 11, 12
One-half Credit/Semester Course

In this course, students will be exposed to several different media concepts. They will have the chance to utilize Microsoft programs (PowerPoint, Publisher) and Adobe (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and other related software packages to develop different multimedia projects. As a class, they will be involved in developing a school newsletter to inform their classmates of all the news and activities taking place at Catholic Central High School.

PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS
Grades 10, 11, 12
One-half Credit/Semester Course
Prerequisite: Minimum of 70% in Computers-Microsoft Office

This course covers the basic of photo editing. Students will use the Adobe Photoshop program to create various projects. Students will learn to make the simplest looking photos amazing by utilizing the tools featured in the Elements of Art. For example: removal of Red Eye, merging photos, preparing slide shows and create a panoramic photo project. The students will also learn to color-correct, retouch techniques, crop and modify photographs.
