About BJKM

Bishop John King Mussio Central Elementary

Our Mission

Rooted in faith and guided by the traditions and doctrines of the Catholic Church, Bishop John King Mussio Central Elementary strives for academic excellence by providing an inclusive, Christ-centered educational environment where all students are respected and nurtured spiritually, intellectually, physically and socially.

Foundations of Education

Bishop John King Mussio Central Elementary School serves grades pre-school through sixth grade and is built upon the foundation of nearly a century of Catholic Education in the Steubenville Diocese. Our school provides for the education of the whole child by integrating religious principles into its learning curriculum.  Students grow both in their Catholic faith and beliefs, as well as academically, in a nurturing and safe environment.

Rooted in the traditions of the Catholic faith, the latest in teaching methodology and creative learning is utilized.  A strong academic curriculum, following the Ohio State Standards, is supplemented by high expectations of our students. Computer program, music, art, physical education, guidance program, library center, enrichment and remediation programs are incorporated into the school program.  The faculty consists of state-certified teachers who are committed to creating a faith environment and building Christian community between the staff, parents, and students. Parents play an integral part in the school program.  Active parent committees work to support the school and work as a team with the school administration and teachers.

A strong Catholic identity is evidenced through weekly Masses, Diocesan certified catechists, daily Religion classes, daily assembly for morning prayer, rosary recitation, sacramental preparation, celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, prayer services, visits in the classroom by parish priests, service opportunities, and Diocesan approved instructional materials.

We Believe...

  • That though our rich heritage which is grounded in the Catholic Faith, our students are comfortable in knowing and expressing their faith
  • That out students will develop strong morals and values that demonstrate our Catholic identity,
  • That our school functions as a family of God, with rich traditions, a common purpose, and striving to fulfill mission,
  • That our students utilize their God-given talents in service for others,
  • That our students are provided with many varied opportunities to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ,
  • That our curriculum is committed to academic excellence for all learners,
  • That our students are challenged in their educational growth by developing the academic gifts they possess for the challenges of living in the 21st Century,
  • That our teachers strive to recognize and address the diverse learning styles of our students with varied instructional strategies and assessments to meet individuals student needs,
  • That mentoring and shared decision-making is an intricate part of student, staff and community development,
  • That the school community encourages a willingness to learn, and openness to change, and an appreciation of new ideas in which students and teachers review, practice, revise and adjust their skills and goals.
