Academics
Our Mission…
Rooted in faith and guided by the traditions and doctrines of the Catholic Church, Bishop John King Mussio Central Elementary strives for academic excellence by providing an inclusive, Christ-centered educational environment where all students are respected and nurtured spiritually, intellectually, physically and socially.
"Our kids love going to BJKM. The whole atmosphere is supportive and wholesome. We're blessed to be here."
— Rob and Liz, BJKM Parents
We Believe...
- That all students can learn in an environment that allows them to achieve their full potential.
- In encouraging students to develop faith, respect, moral judgment and a commitment to gospel values.
- That the school should foster a sense of vocation to reflect the gospel command to love one another as Jesus loves us.
- That our school community should be a partnering of efforts among students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators and pastors.
- That we should prepare students spiritually and academically to become productive citizens ready for the challenges facing Catholics in the 21st century.
About Bishop Mussio Elementary
Bishop John King Mussio Central Elementary School serves grades pre-school through sixth grade and is built upon the foundation of nearly a century of Catholic Education in the Steubenville Diocese. Our school provides for the education of the whole child by integrating religious principles into its learning curriculum. Students grow both in their Catholic faith and beliefs, as well as academically, in a nurturing and safe environment.
Rooted in the traditions of the Catholic faith, the latest in teaching methodology and creative learning is utilized. A strong academic curriculum, following the Ohio State Standards, is supplemented by high expectations of our students. Computer program, music, art, physical education, guidance program, library center, enrichment and remediation programs are incorporated into the school program. The faculty consists of state-certified teachers who are committed to creating a faith environment and building Christian community between the staff, parents, and students. Parents play an integral part in the school program. Active parent committees work to support the school and work as a team with the school administration and teachers.
A strong Catholic identity is evidenced through weekly Masses, Diocesan certified catechists, daily Religion classes, daily assembly for morning prayer, rosary recitation, sacramental preparation, celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, prayer services, visits in the classroom by parish priests, service opportunities, and Diocesan approved instructional materials.
